Role: Design motion graphics and kinetic typography
Duration: 3 weeks
Abstract
My teammates and I were tasked with creating a video in less than twenty-one days about the science of Bioluminescence. We were required to use kinetic typography in the video that could not exceed three minutes in length. We used after effects and type treatments to animate our illustrations and type.
Moodboard
Color Scheme and Typeface
We chose to use a pastel color palette, so the type would stand out and be “the star” of the show. To enhance this effect, we used the same colors for the type but applied a glow type treatment to the lettering. We selected the typeface Brandon Grotesque, because it was clean and had a modern feel with a large variety of weights.
initial illustrations
My colleagues and I wanted the illustrations to be flat and not to appear cartoonish in nature. We wanted to design this “look and feel” in order to make the type stand out more and become the most animated element in each scene. Many of the illustrations we sourced from Vecteezy, and altered them to our liking. The purpose of this project was to work with kinetic typography, not to make an animation video.
